BikernetMetric Freedom or Death bike build is on.

OK, the build is beginning this weekend on the XS650 for Trent at http://www.bikernetmetric.com/

It will be unveiled at the ROT rally in Austin Texas The beginning of June at the Dirty Dog at the Freedom or Death Motorbike Bash held just for this, on 6th street in the heart of the ROT, 3 bands, big fun, go there.

MANY very cool vendors have donated parts towards this build, they are......

Elswick Cycles- Hard tail, Oil Tank, & Bars
Biltwell- Exhaust kit in 1.75"
Working Man customs- leather work for Trent & Bond to sit on.
Fab Kevin- Seat Pan & Hinge
7 Metal West- Brass rear fender
Rocks Chops- licence plate bracket & light, & maybe bar end levers
After Hours Choppers- Brass Risers
Limey Bikes- Mechanical work after bike is built to make it run better then itll look :-)
Hot Rod Refinishers- Paint work
Pinstripe Chris- Goldleaf & stripe work
The Dirty Dog Bar- For putting the bar in the Hands of a Madman for a night
Independence Brewery- Beer for the bash
Me Me me- Making a bike that resembles something vaguely, remotely, close to, kinda what Trent pictured for the Freedom or Death Machine.......

Trent has given me a black silhouette of a bike that dances in his head (the one at the top of BikenetMetric), & many pictures of bikes that have the vibe he is after. I have a bike in my head, this will meet somewhere in the middle & I think make Trent really really weak in the knees when its done. He Will love me long time.
This bike is about a lot of things, it is to showcase parts being made by people, by hand, in small shops, that outshine large company mass production parts. It is about community, not corporate, its about trying to pull together small bits from different hands into one machine, that will be used, & time & wear will improve is hand made steel, brass & black parts.

I have 4 weeks to build this Bike, & am hoping to see some parts before to long, this is to say the least a challenge, but the greatest things are born from challenges........also some totally messed up things.......but we will hope for greatness end of the spectrum.

So there it is, watch this blog, & BikernetMetric for updates, pictures, me being committed & so on.

Freedom or Death XS650 Project

Next in line is a Yamaha XS650. Im building it for Trent in Austin Texas, he runs BikernetMetric which was nothing until he took it over a few months ago. It will transform from Blog form to a concrete site shortly, that will be rich with features, info, tech, & a forum.

I firmly believe with the older Japanese bikes starting to make the comeback into mainstream that they are, & the variety of ways they are being modified, that there will be more & more interest in them in the next few years. They make sense. Inexpensive, smaller cc bikes that are fun, sip gas, dont break, etc etc. Choppers, Bobbers, Cafe' bikes, they are all being done using anything from common xs650s to CB750s to 250s or 1000s, there is an endless supply of bikes & choices.

There are many disjointed sites for the Metric crowd, I think BikernetMetric will eventually morph into a mainstay site that will bring things together.

Im am going to build this bike for Trent. Elswick cycles has donated a Tail, oil tank, & handlebars. LimeyBikes is donating some tuning labor once bike hits Texas. Rocks Chops is donating Tagbracket & Light, 7 Metal West is donating a fender. Working Man customs is doing the seats.

The bike will be showcased at the Republic of Texas motorcycle Rally, or ROT, at a BikernetMetric Party at the Dirty Dog Bar on 6th street, Bands, Bikes, the whole bit.

Trent is a lunatic, but a fun lunatic, with ADD. He likes to say nice stuff about me & is never boring.

In exchange for me helping with Trents bike, he has to deal with me being me, not easy for some people,& he will help me with stuff later that I suck at & he is good at. He is on fire 24/7 & will do good for the Metric & Euro bike community, I have Faith.

Theres a Bike in this picture somewhere.

Im still working off cell pics & my sons laptop. Should be back to my desktop, real pictures, & adding to my site in next day or two.
I got the T120 about 95 percent done. Need to swap a drum on the rear, & go thru the carbs & she'll be good to ride I think. Heres a few pics from today.
